Kai,
You're going to have surgery this morning.  We're all nervous about it, well, I know I am for sure.  You've got to get put under anesthesia to get silver caps put on your teeth.  They're doing it at UMC hospital and it's probably nothing to get worried about, so I'm just saying a prayer and handing the worry over to God.

This reminds me I haven't put anything in here lately about your recent accomplishments.
You started school a few weeks ago.  You've been crying a lot when we drop you off.  Daddy says you don't cry when he drops you off, just when I'm with him.  I want you to know that warms my heart, but it's bitter sweet because I don't want you to feel sad.  Both you and Delsin keep telling me you want to be homeschooled, so if that's still the case next fall we'll go back to homeschooling.  But you're doing really great.  You haven't missed a single thing on any of your work yet.  School started August 1st.  In fact, you are doing the same homework that Delsin does, because you don't want him to get ahead of you in school work.  You're very driven and I love that about you.

In ballet you have been named the student of the month, the first student of the month award to be precise.  Here is what they wrote about you.

August Student of the Month:

Kai Urick

Kai is five years old and in kindergarten.  Her favorite subject in school is writing.  She loves the color pink.  She has been dancing for a couple of years, and her favorite style of dance is ballet.  She also loves to sing.  Kai is a hard worker and a fast learner! She comes to dance each week having practiced her new steps from the week before.  Kai is a joy to have in class!

I don't know if the photo will show up, so I'll post a couple more that they took.
Right now I have to get you ready to go to the hospital.
I quickly want to mention that we started Daisy's in recent weeks and you earned a badge for making a first aid kit.  You also helped tremendously in raising money at the hot dog stand last week, for a trip to the zoo.
Good Job Girlie!

Have I told you lately?

Your first birthday was a blast.  You were so funny and cute and sweet.
Here are some new things you're doing:
You started throwing fits the day before your birthday.  If you wanted to be held for no reason, you let me know about it.
You started walking a WHOLE lot more the day after your birthday, and now you're walking all over the place.
You are gabbing like crazy and started saying "Daddy" last week.  And it's so sweet to hear you call out for him when you wake up, sometimes.
You've stopped eating vegetables.  Ever since your daddy shared a steak with you a few weeks back you won't touch a vegetable or bread.  It's all hot dogs and steaks or burgers/lunch meat.  You're definitely a carnivore by nature.

OK I've got to go fix breakfast for Delsin right now.  Kai's getting caps put on her teeth today so we're gonna spend some time at the hospital this morning.  I love you sweetie.

Diagnosed with gestational diabetes today.

I took the 1 hour glucose test two weeks ago and tested 212.
I took the 1 hour test again last week and tested 186
Took the 3 hour test yesterday and the first blood draw came back 64, 2nd was 175, 3rd was 207, & 4th was 171.

The nurse (Misty) at Women's Health Center, where we plan/hope to do a water birth, just called to tell me to start taking medication and checking my blood sugar 4 times a day.

Medication: (Metformin) Pick it up anytime, start taking it tomorrow morning.  I will cause some nausea and diarrhea at the beginning of taking it.  Make sure to eat protein when taking it.  It's not insulin.
If we do really well with this along with diet then we won't have to take insulin.
Check blood sugars 4 times a day.

I pray that you're OK in there baby.  I'm worried about us now.  You more than anything.  I love you.

Ultra Sound Pictures!

You've been kicking for quite a while now.  The ultra sound nurse said you have long legs.  I believe it!

The Docs says we may have gestational diabetes, so I've cut out our daily hot fudge cake sundae.  And am trying to watch what I eat more.  I didn't realize till now just how much junk food I'd been letting myself have.  I normally don't crave it at all, but with this pregnancy I've been eating a lot of junk food and craving it nonstop.  We go back for another test this coming Wednesday to make a final determination if we are diabetic right now or not.  Praying.
